Happy 4 month Birthday to me!!
Hi everybody!!I am Lilly Rose. I am 4 months old today! I am writing the blog for my mommy today because she is exhausted!!! Mommy was asleep in her room and I was sleeping in my room when my furry brothers decided to misbehave and woke me up at 4 am in the morning! My brother Neko was banging on mommy and daddy's bedroom door even though it was open, my old brother Mr. B was on the bathroom sink right outside my door crying and crying for somebody to turn the faucet on! Gee whiz, they were so loud! They woke me from my sleep and I let out a couple cries into the little box that mommy keeps near my crib, it sends my cries to a box in her room so she knows when I need her.
I heard mommy wake up, she was very angry with my two brothers. I heard her as she went down the stairs to heat my bottle and feed my brothers, she was saying some very bad words you blankety blank blank cats! Mommy tries not to use bad words around me but she was very angry. She even used the very baddest word it is called the "F" word and it costs everybody .50 cents when they say it near me. Usually bad words cost a quarter but that one is real bad. When you use bad words near me you have to put the money in my piggy bank. Mommy had to put alot of quarters in my piggy bank- I am not sure how many total because I cant really add or count yet. But I trust her.

So anyways.. mommy came back upstairs and gave me my bottle and said Happy Birthday. I started to get sleepy again and was drifting off when mommy was leaving out my door.. then Mr B let out a cry and it startled me and mommy said the real bad word again. I fell back to sleep after a minute though.
I woke up at 7:00am, my mommy was really tired when she came to check on me. She gave me my bottle and I got to go sleep with her for a little bit. Daddy was getting ready for his place he goes to everyday. I don't like it when daddy leaves but he comes back in the afternoon and then again at night.
When mommy and I had our 2nd wake up we went downstairs. Mommy made that icky smelling brown stuff she drinks for her and she made me a bottle. Mmmm After that mommy waited a little bit and then we played. I got to play with my new toys! It was so much fun and I felt like a real big girl. You can see how much fun I was having in the pictures. We spent the day playing, singing and reading. Daddy came home and he read me a book too. It was so much fun! I get to have a bath tonight too! I love baths! Wow what a birthday!
Mommy and daddy talked about how much I have grown and how sweet I am. They like it when I giggle and when I laugh at them with my big belly laugh. We all love to cuddle! I like to talk to them and tell them stories. We play the game where I mimic what mommy and daddy do. Teehee it is funny. Mommy and daddy can't believe I am so old already! They say that the time is flying... I don't understand that - how can the time fly? Well we are all enjoying each other and we like to see the new things that each of us do everyday!
I better get going, I think my mommy is waking up and daddy's show might have a commercial coming. He thinks I am to young to be on the puter! I try to tell him I is a big girl!
Ok, so you can look at some of my new pictures and I will try to sneak back on soon and tell you whats been going on with all of us! Hugs and kisses from me to you!!
XOXO

Holidays.....
We dressed Lilly up for Halloween; she was a pickle of course! Gramma Burke made her costume and it was adorable! Unfortunately it was cold and rainy so we did not get to go out and show off her costume. Lilly was pretty tolerant of the costume until it was time to eat- she does not mess around when it is feeding time.
CHRISTMAS PHOTOS
This was quite an expensive ordeal, but in the end we are told it was worth it. I had found this Christmas dress a few months ago and fell in love with it. I was looking forward to having our first “professional” photos done.
I called Picture People to make an appointment for Sunday, I was told they had a changing room at the location so I did not have to pack up Lilly in her dress, tights etc into her car seat and drive her there in that hot and uncomfortable state. We arrived at the Picture place and there were people everywhere. We were directed to the “changing” room Joel and I opened the door to the “changing” room which turned out to be a bathroom with a Koala pull down changing station. So Joel and I plopped Lilly onto the changing station and started to change her into her dress. Well at one point I was trying to position her to get the buttons and Joel and I had gotten her out of her old outfit when she slipped bumping the back of her head, now horrified Joel and I look at each other in a blame way like it was the others fault. So Lilly was starting to get a little cranky and overheated as were her parents. We finally got her changed into her tights and dress and raced to get out of this hot and claustrophobic little bathroom.
We step out into the hall which is packed with people going every which way with kids running and screaming and strollers smashing into us. We get back into the waiting/entrance area and wait for what seemed like ages. Finally a photographer comes out and starts setting up right at the entrance. When we came in I assumed this station was set up as decoration for the photo place- I did not think in a million years they would use it to take photos since it was open to the main entrance, the waiting area and all the people waiting, as well as being exposed to all the mall walkers passing by who could see our photos being taken.
A
t this point I am not thrilled with everyone staring at us and our little baby who is starting to get real cranky and keeps lifting her dress up to her face to slobber and suck on it. We set Lilly up for her first round of pictures and she was not happy at all about this ordeal, we were not getting smiles and the photographer was not the most patient. She tried a few shots and smacked the ground to get Lilly’s attention- but Lilly was having none of it. After 5-10 minutes of this Lilly started to get really upset she was still pulling at her dress and her face started to get red – so we notice that she has broken out into a little rash on her body where the dress is. Ugghh We decide to strip her down for her other photos in the Santa hat and on the pillow with the tree. She was immediately in better spirits once she was stripped down to her diaper (she loves to be naked baby!) So now we have her propped on a pillow (studio pillow which I imagine is full of other kids slobber and germs) ready for the next round of photos and she starts to slobber on the pillow, which horrifies us – and then proceeds to try to go to sleep. Meanwhile the photographer is banging on the floor again and Lilly is starting to get annoyed with her at this point- geez she is trying to take a nap. Well after many more minutes of this the photographer who has been shooting the whole time says we are good. Well I knew that we did not have any giggling or smiling photos – but what can I do at this point.
We dressed our baby as all the
onlookers watched and we were told to come back in an hour to see the shots. We take a walk around the mall and come back in an hour only to sit and wait some more. Finally Keri ( a pink haired younger girl) comes out and says come with me, we turn a corner and there set up next to a big screen monitor are the pictures matted and framed of our session… Ahh so this is how they get you! How can we not purchase these wonderful photos with our little angel in nicely matted cherry wood picture frames that would match my furniture and decor perfectly! Ouch! Well I guess we can eat tuna fish and ramen noodles for a month. Ha!
We went in for our appointment at 1:30pm and did not get
home until 6:30pm, I skipped some of the details in the story like having to rush home to feed Lilly at 3:30 since I realized the ready made formula bottles we bought which we thought only needed a bottle nipple to screw onto them actually needed the bottle cap also which we did not have – so after a grueling photo session we had a overheated, rashy, starving little baby and no way to feed her the formula we had. We had to bluntly tell the sales girl we HAD to go home and feed Lilly unless she preferred to have a screaming angry baby there while we chose our photos. So we rushed home and fed our little girl and went back an hour later. Of course we chose the frames and our photos and Keri was so helpful, she sat there and let me change colors and enhance photos never once mentioning that one enhancement per sheet was $25.00 – once she sold us the package she sent us to the register rung us up then walked off and let the older lady dressed as Santa’s wife there to collect the money. Joel’s jaw dropped when we heard the total, wait a minute that’s not right- well not only had Keri not mentioned the enhancements costing extra when she did ring it up she did not zero out the club membership that was included as well as extra sheets etc etc, poor Mrs. Santa! She was left to clean up Keri’s mess and was such a sweetheart – we did end up getting the enhancements at no charge. In the end we have some great photos of our little girl and some beautiful picture frames for all our future pictures of Lilly. We will be a little bit wiser the next time around.
So there you go, you will be receiving a cute little Christmas card from the Burkes and you better hang it up or keep it out for people to see now that you know the effort that went into getting that cute little Christmas card!
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Our First Month....
It is hard to believe it has been a month since we brought our little girl home….Being new parents is amazing, scary, frustrating, emotional and humbling along with many other feelings…
It started out a little rough, Lilly has had issues with formula and we have had a hard time with feedings until we recently found one that seems to be working great. It had become very stressful after feedings she would get terrible gas and other issues and there was no consoling her. She was in pain and it was heartbreaking to watch her. I began to dread feeding time. You could see how uncomfortable she was. But now we have switched to Similac and we seem to be doing much much better! She is back to her old sweet beautiful self –smiling and cooing and just being the total package as Joel likes to say.
Now as for the diapers – holy cow!!! How such a mess can come out of such a little baby is beyond me. Ick. She also has some gas that dad gets blamed for because it is so loud – it is hard for anyone to believe it came out of her! Haha
Lilly certainly has her own little personality – it is funny to see her little faces and her emotions. She has a dirty look she will give you when you are being ridiculous, an annoyed look when her bottle is not ready quick enough, a happy smile/giggle that you cant help but laugh yourself, a loving smile that melts your heart and then she has the moments when she just looks at you, stares at you with her big eyes full of love and wonderment and she is content to just be held and look at you lovingly.. Those times are priceless.
The grandparents are just over the moon for her and she is just as crazy about them. She is a bit spoiled by them, it is going to be a tough life for her let me tell you!
As for our other “babies” well Mr. B just wants to be close to her and love her, he tries to cuddle on your lap along with her. He never even flinches when she cries or kicks him – of course he is 17 so who knows if he can feel or hear anything anymore. (aww just kidding Mr. B !) Neko on the other hand is a bit more cautious when it comes to her. He likes to sneak up and look at her then slowly back away- obviously this little thing can not be trusted!

She has started to notice things now-she watches the cats, her little bears in her playard, her mom and dad, etc. It is so cool to see her getting more expressive each day and becoming this little person. It is amazing how quickly she has grown and changed already. I am already packing up her newborn clothes that she has outgrown- so sad!
Everyday is a new adventure when you’re a parent. Aunt Becky made a comment stating I bet “it is hard to imagine life before her” and it truly is. Joel and I were talking and he asked me what did we do before this? I said I don’t remember. As exhausting as it is and as exhausted as we are I can’t imagine our life without her. We can’t wait for her next moments, her next laugh, her next smile, her cooing and “talking” to us – we are hooked. She has us wrapped around her finger, especially her daddy. It is going to be hard for him to ever deny this little girl of anything she asks for.
So there you go – that’s our first month. We look forward to reporting the new and wonderous things our little genius does next month! As always we thank everyone for their support and the beautiful gifts! All our love…

Lilly Rose Burke arrives September 14, 2009 at 6:46am
FINALLY!!!! Our little princess arrived on September 14, 2009 at 6:46am. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 ½ inches long.
Yes, you read that right September 14, 2009. Yes I know, I went in on September 12th to be induced- I spent the night in bed hooked up to monitors and not able to get up due to the pill they gave me to thin my cervix. So Joel and I watched TV, snacked and talked about our little girl who was going to be joining us on Sunday.
Sunday morning Dr. Jerk face (yes he ended up being the Dr on call who was supposed to deliver Lilly) came into my room and informed me that my cervix had not budged one bit and that – guess what – we need to administer another pill and wait 10-12 hours to see if that one does the job. Joel and I looked at each other with horror another pill? Another 10-12 hours before we even get to be induced?? Oh son of a &^&*^%^%*&^^%!!!!!!!! Ms. Lilly was one stubborn little girl!
So another 10 hours we wait as I lay around hooked up to monitors listening to my little girl kick and move in my belly – she would kick the monitors so hard she would knock them out of place and the nurse had to keep coming in to re attach them to my belly.. Teehee my little girl had attitude!
At about 10pm Dr Jerk face came in during half time (apparently he was in a couple fantasy football leagues
so he had to watch all the games before he came to check my stubborn cervix) anyway, he informed me okay the last pill did its job so now we start the pitocin. Yippeeeeee!!!!!!! (If I only knew then).
Now many people have told me NOW that they knew as soon as I mentioned pitocin and inducing how painful this birth was going to be, however nobody wanted to mention it to me beforehand – I appreciate that kind of… Interesting thing about pitocin, you can administer it in different amounts depending on the Dr. I believe that Dr. Jerk face knew I secretly loathed him so he decided to slam me with the highest dose every half hour and bring on my contractions like gang busters!
Trina, I promised you that I would be completely honest with you – and I will – the contractions hit me and I have never felt that kind of pain – ever and hope I don’t ever feel anything like it again. The thing is with regular contractions you have time in between to regroup and whatnot – when you are induced it is like one long continuous contraction that does not stop. It was a race for the epidural; I had to wait a couple hours? Maybe I am not even sure.. But once that lovely man came in, that sweet, sweet hero of a man holding a needle the size of a yard stick –I was never so happy to see anyone in my life. As he walked towards me -he tripped over a stool –he almost went down and I went into a panic, I could not even laugh at the hilarity of it - I wanted to scream – Please no not the epidural!!! Save the sweet epidural man! He is the only one who can give the damn shot!!! Luckily for everyone in the room he regained his footing and made it over to me – after 20 minutes of BS and signing my life away the sweet man shot me in the back and I was so grateful I wanted to kiss him, as did poor Joel who had been trying to help me through contractions which I think hurt him as much as they hurt me.
So now moving onto labor, Trina labor is nothing. No worries about anything after the epidural, it is all cake after that. I tried to tell the nurses that the baby is coming, but their monitor which was supposed to be keeping track of my contractions was obviously not working and they kept telling Joel and I to go back to bed and get some rest. I said repeatedly to Joel- Joel she is coming, I know it. He would get the nurses; they would check the monitor and send him back to bed. So finally at about 6:30am, I said that’s it Joel get them this baby is coming for crying out loud, finally they check me and see I am not making this up – so now it’s a scramble –get her legs, do this, do that and I said I cant stop I HAVE to push- and it took about 4-5 pushes, one nurse had to grab another Dr out of the hallway (Dr. Jerk face was busy somewhere else) and he entered the room just in time as Little Lilly shot –and this is not me exaggerating she shot across the bed, I saw her and he barely made it there to catch her… Whew that was close..
I heard the sweet screaming of my little girl as the nurses tried to clean her up – she fought them every step of the way screaming her head off -until finally after an eternity they gave me my little girl, I looked at her and her little face with her big eyes looking at me and thought to myself - yep I can see how women forget the pain and the embarrassment and all the other negative things that come with childbirth – because it is truly all worth it. I can’t explain the love that you feel and the instant bond and protectiveness that happens. It is truly an amazing experience and I would not change one thing – well maybe the pain part.
So Joel and I finally have our baby girl- little Lilly pad. She is the sweetest baby ever, she has her own little personality and attitude and we love seeing new things she does every day. I swear she is a genius already-and her grandparents all agree! She likes to get dressed up, she has major attitude when she is hungry and that is the only time (knock on wood) that she cries. We are starting to get into a routine and we have been enjoying our time with her. Poor Joel has to go back to work next week and I know it will be tough for him to have to leave her. Luckily he is close by and can come home for lunch to see her. I on the other hand am lucky and I get to stay home with my lil Lilly pad and send updates and pictures to everyone.
Thank you all for your well wishes and as always we will keep you updated on Lilly Rose.

Where or Where is my Pickle?????

So here we are on September 7th, Labor day and still no Pickle!
Joel and I have tried to be patient but considering all of our other friends were early and have had their babies-it is getting really tough! We want our baby!
I have been "nesting" for a month straight now. I can't possibly vacuum one more time, Joel says I am wearing out the carpet. He barely has a chance to take his work clothes off before I have them thrown in the washer... I have been trying to keep the house "Pickle Ready" but still no Pickle!!!
I have given up trying to read any signs that my body gives- it obviously can't be trusted! I thought she was coming 2 weeks ago... So here we wait.
Well this morning I had a talk with Little Ms. Stubborn and explained that as of yesterday the lease is up and as of today I start charging rent.. Lets see if that gets her moving!
I guess my poll should of had another date span - sorry but obviously those of you who chose the last option have won! Congratulations! You get to babysit! Hahahaha
We are starting to get extremely nervous and stressed with all the waiting - so let's hope she arrives safe and healthy and soon!
I sign off hoping that today "Labor Day" will be the day... Wouldn't that be ironic..
We will keep you posted on any news - Love to you all.

If you would like to be more specific or make a note that you guessed a date- feel free to do so on this post under comments. Good Luck to ya.
